Climbing the Mountain

Last month, K embarked on her own bicycle adventure - no boys!

My friend Liz and I are traveling buddies and we try to meet up somewhere fun every year. . . this year she came to the Northwest and we headed north to explore the San Juan Islands. The three of us girls barely fit in the car with all the luggage and bikes (and I think some members of the party were skeptical that the car would make it) but here we are, off on our adventure.

We enjoyed the views from the ferry on the way there.

We made it to Moran State Park and set up camp. . . .

And biked the 7 miles into town.

Even though we were told by multiple shop owners that we would never make it back to our campsite without walking, we did, and we made a tasty dinner on the camp stove. . . .

And snuggled into our tent.

In the morning we made pancakes on the fire.

And headed up the mountain. . . really a mountain. Mount Constitution on Orcas Island is the highest point on the San Juans. It is only 3 miles up but it is STRAIGHT UP - 2,400 feet.

We rock.

Half way there. Can the view really get better?

Little Summit: the hard part is over, we just have 4 miles to go to the resting point:

Ahhh, the view is worth it.

Did I mention how awesome we are?

Thanks for visiting and giving an excuse to visit Orcas Island!
