1/10th Ironman

While it isn't Europe, I certainly can't complain about a weekend in San Diego with my sister and Liz. We arrived in town and we're taken out to the hottest San Diego sushi bar.

One of the main reasons for the trip (or excuses for a trip) was the 1/10th Ironman Triathlon. The UCSD Triathlon Team hosted us for 500 yard swim, 12 mile bike, 3.1 mile run.

We had a day to prepare and eat our carbs before the race:
We had some minor equipment issues and Liz had to ride to the triathlon in the back seat, with her bike, holding the back door semi-closed, but we made it and started preparing (6 a.m.).

The best part about a triathlon - wearing numbers on your arms:We got a little more serious closer to race time:

Luckily, we had three dedicated fans who came to take pictures. This is just minutes before we discovered the water was FULL of jelly fish!

The swim is over and they're out of the water:

The bike leg: 3 laps around the island, a great tailwind on one side and a major headwind on the other. Check out the bikes circa 1975!

And the run. .. . Carina on the way out and Liz and Tina with the big finish.

Finishers:
We went home and crashed but that didn't stop us for going out that night, meeting some of Carina's friends and discovering a new local hangout.

Easter Sunday: a full brunch and Easter egg dying.

Check out the artistry:
We all look stumped on the Easter egg hunt in Carina's yard patio.
The sun came out once the whole weekend:
We wrapped up our trip with a tour of San Diego beaches, a little body boarding and, of couse, haircuts for all!

As is tradition in Carina's house, all guests must wear the Sully costume. Keeping with the theme of the weekend, Sully rode the bike - with a helmet, of couse.

Thanks for a great weekend, Ladies!
