2005 ALS DoubleDay
The ALS DoubleDay bike ride is an event that we have participated in for several years now. For the past two years, the two of us were on the committee that organized the entire ride. This year we had 134 riders and raised over $75,000 for the ALS Association - Evergreen Chapter.
Day 1
The 2-day ride through the Skagit Valley began on Saturday, July 30th. You can see the blue sky and the smiling faces of people preparing to ride.
Tons of wonderful volunteers made registration a piece of cake!
Friendly sponsors such as Gregg's assisted people with bicycle tune-ups before the ride started.
Peter and Jim discuss the day's plans.
Here is Team Rhino, made up of riders and volunteers, ready to rock and roll!
And they're off!
Alex acted as "sweeper" so he had to be the last one to finish.
Cruisin' in style on the single speed made it easier to go slow (and look this good!).
Rocking through fields of the Skagit Valley. (That is pronounced Ska-jit, not Ska-get)
"Oh yeah!"
Tim was sporting some sweet helmet-hair during lunch. Wow...
We interrupt your DoubleDay blogging to bring you a quick message from the La Conner Society for Parking Standards. Check out this parking job. The improtant things to notice are the cross-walk, the color of the curb, and the weird yellow thing at the bottom of the picture.
Now back to the DoubleDay.
Rachel and Justine pedal the last few miles to Conway. Mt. Baker looks on from the distance.
Josh gives a speech during the dinner presentation. Pasta was served, and hungry bikers got to chow down and listen to people talk about their experiences with ALS. Raffle prizes and ice cream topped off the dinner.
As the day ended, a gorgeous Conway sunset wished us goodnight.
Day 2
Kristina serves breakfast on Sunday (yes she cracked all 20 dozen eggs).
Coni and Kristina before the start of Day 2. Can you tell we're related?
A friendly looking group celebrates a the first rest stop on Day 2.
Kristina, Bennett, Jess, Dan, Ryan, Mom's head, Mark's hair, Josh T and Ivar.
Finally! 85 or 100 miles later and burritos never tasted so good! Riders and volunteers mingled and celebrated a great weekend of making a difference.
Save the date for next year's ride!
